Government hydrogen announcement

19 February 2010

In response to the government announcement that South Wales will become a Low Carbon Economic Area dedicated to hydrogen energy, Ian Williamson, Hydrogen Energy Systems Director Air Products Europe and Vice-Chair of the UK Hydrogen Association said:

"It is excellent news that the UK and Welsh Assembly Governments are making these funds available and recognising that hydrogen is a commercially viable low carbon transport fuel today. Investment in hydrogen transport infrastructure is an absolute necessity if the UK is to meet its carbon reduction goals and there is a real opportunity for the UK to become a world leader in this technology. As a company, Air Products has been at the forefront hydrogen projects around the UK from London, to the Midlands and even the Outer Hebrides and it is welcome news that government has seen the value of hydrogen transport. We will look to support this new LCEA in any way we can."
